Anyways, Roterothopter leaves a little to be desired. Personaly I wish all the thopters were 0 cmc creatures that all varied slightly. The problem with Roterothopter is that it is just barely better than ornithopter, which is a good card mainly due to the fact that it costs 0 mana and can chump block, be used for sacrifice effects, and as part of a combo piece. But while Roterothopter is better functionaly, the fact that it costs even 1 mana destroys the appeal that ornithopter had. Sadly a 0/2 flyer for 1 with very limited and expensive firebreathing doesn't impress many people.
Though personaly, I still have a soft spot for it since it is a thopter...

I need to jump in and defend this card a bit. Even though it is clearly worse than Ornithopter in most circumstances (being free just makes it infinitely abuseable, for one), it can be potentially better in games that go the distance. Homelands was such a god awful set that I would have been pleased to draft a couple of these and enchant them with Feast of the Unicorn and go to town. Even though it is overshadowed by a great many things in modern times, this had its place in its day and was one of very few artifact flyers, and has no ridiculous drawbacks to speak of. It's not as horrible as people think, especially for a creature of its day.
