outside of madness, this could still be a beast in a 'normal' discard deck:
turn 1 swamp, dark ritual, duress, hymn to tourach
turn 2 swamp, dark ritual, oppression
turn 3 swamp, dark ritual, underworld dreams, liliana's caress, target opponent quits Magic after asking you how many dark rituals are in your deck.

Does the spell still resolve if the play has no hand to discard? wasn't sure since there are other cards that say things like "when comes into play sacrifice a creature" and the rulings state if there are no other creatures you have to sacrifice that creature with the text. was wondering if this worked the same way.

This is such a good card for slowing down a game, especially EDH.
playing this on my first turn with dark ritual granted me "Target No.1" status and i was first to fall...
by about turn 40 XD.
See, no one wanted to play anything because they'd lose all their good cards, right? And since my EDH deck revolved around resurrection, i didn't care when i discarded Demon of Death's Gate or Sheoldred, Whispering One
Regardless, i think this card is very good, despite the back-firing effect is has on yourself. Not as good of an enchantment as No Mercy, but still does it's job.

@DarthParallax: Your opponent probably quits since you have used 11 cards from your hand by turn 3 without carddraw and having discarded a card for each of your turn-3 spells. I think you may have missed that the caster has to discard: there is no target, but that notwithstanding you still used 11 cards when you would have had 10 cards on the draw.

Stringing together madness chains with this is pretty funny if you have enough low-cost madness cards. Simply discard one, cast for Madness cost, oops look you cast a spell better discard another card OH HEY this one has madness too, how about that.
