As another player once said to me whilst we cracked open packs in rath cycle: "No... I don't do Fugue."

Remember kids, it's pronounced "Fug you".

The synonym for the fugue of the music variety refers to a psychological breakdown, where you have complete amnesia afterwards. It fits with discard and the art. Are the designers clever enough to have picked three because of the musical definition, and double entendre? perhaps.

@DrJack the card name is referring to psychogenic fugue, like amnesia. It's a bit more clear in the Exodus version, but yeah, they're not talking about music.

This one wins the grand prize for Art That Doesn't Match Its Name (Or Its Function!).

(OK, thanks to you guys, now I know that there is another definition of "fugue". Still, wouldn't it be cool to have a card with a shadowy dude playing a fugue on a skeletal pipe organ or something?)

Fugue: A dude swinging a sword around, that makes you discard 3 cards? After first hearing about this card I was expecting to see someone playing a pipe organ - you know, playing a "fugue", which is a piece of music written in a particular style for those that don't know. Being a black card, I was expecting (and hoping) for a ghostly outlined form sitting at a spooky looking pipe organ, perhaps looking over his shoulder and giving you a impish smile. Discarding 3 cards could sort of make sense, being that a fugue has at least 3 "voices" (melodic lines that interact and trade-off parts). Is that what the card designer was originally thinking?

Boys, it's time for you to get acquainted with J.S. Bach's "Well Tempered Klavier" books and listen to some performances of the prelude & fugues contained within. They're transcendant, after all.

Discard 3 is brutal, but is it worth 3BlackBlack?
