I have no idea what the artist was doing here

Man, I couldn't agree more! I love Corrupt, it's wicked, but the 7th Edition art is just... I mean, what is that bland, uncool black mage even DOING in this picture? Why are there two soldiers, the spell only works on one target! And looking at that stupid *ss face in the corner p*sses me off every time. It's not supposed to be even remotely funny, dammit! This spell is pure evil! I usually don't whine about artwork much, but this one makes me feel bad playing the card. Yes, I've seen a LOT worse Magic art, but this one... it just doesn't fit. AT ALL. Plus the whole scene is really poorly planned-out, the focus is on, what, the mage? The sword? The black thingy which is apparently hurting(?) the soldiers? I don't know, your whole attention is instantly drawn to that friggin' FACE in the corner. And the damn white borders make it even worse (I'm so glad they finally decided to kill them, no one ever liked them). Corrupt is one of the main win condition spells in my MBC and unfortunately, since I only have the 7th Edition ones, it looks like s**t. Thank you, Wizards, for reprinting it with a much more appropriate artwork AND rarity. Black power!
*Goes off to buy a playset of Shadowmoor Corrupts*

Ah yes, 7th edition. Reprints of old cards, their art replaced with horrible art, and their flavour text replaced with banal, boring, or stupid flavour text.

And then there was the ham-handed "paladin story" theme.

Mage: OH MY GAWD MY EYES
Soldier 1: OH MY GAWD SOMETHIN' SHINY
Soldier 2: DEEEEEERRRRRRRRPPP
