Not an Ancestral Recall. Fills quite a many other purposes too, which the Recall cannot do!

Combos very nicely with Pursuit of Knowledge.

Four comments only for one of the Vintage/Legacy powerhouses??
For shame. This card belongs in pretty much every blue deck ever.

An easy 4x in any Pauper blue deck. An automatic include to any EDH deck with a blue commander. Such a good card. Works great with Delver of Secrets, just cast it in response to the trigger.

So which R&D member thought that this was how you 'fix' Ancestral?

Was godly.... and then they made miracles

Brainstorm was not great when it came out. It was handy, but that's it. In the past decade+, things have changed. Brainstorm is awesome because of its environment (which is true of most cards' awesomeness).

Don't think R&D realized they reprinted Ancestral Recall, though to be fair they didn't have knowledge of the future and how well this card would combine with shuffle effects.
5/5.

Like others here have said, the card wasn't broken in its era. It's the strongest business spell you could find, yet sculpting your hand then proceeding to just draw the two worst cards over the next turns isn't insane. Shuffle effects really make it godly.
It's weakest in Commander, where you're running a singleton of everything and 3 cards out of 100 isn't very deep. Sensei's Divining Top is much better there because of its reusability.
