Turn 1: Figure of Destiny Later, You win if they can't deal with it. Forcing removal on a 1 drop is always worth it.

Figure needs to come out turn 1 or so. Each upgrade is like playing an undercosted version of what he becomes. However, attempting to hit multiple stages in one turn is decidedly NOT worth it. Unless you have mana to burn.
I'm not 100% sure why this guy made it into this promo set...
Don't get me wrong, I like this card a great deal.
But, I'm wondering:
What's his affiliation with Fire and/or Lightning, other than it being in the color red.

Think of the deck less as fire and lightning and more as "Nostalgic RDW deck with lots of iconic red cards that we slapped a flashy-sounding name onto" and it makes more sense. =p Figure is one of the iconic red cards - despite not being all that old - and when they designed this deck they wanted to include a lot of the iconic cards.

This card made me at least a 50% return on all the eventide boxes I bought. Buy box, sleeve and ebay all Figures and Glen Elendra Archmages, keep the rest, rinse, repeat.

My buddy's Stormtide Leviathan deck can't stop the Fire & Lightning deck because of this guy.
His next ability reads: {0}: If Figure of Destiny is an Avatar, your opponent is about to lose the game.

@ Dacen Octavio: Generally, a deck with Stormtide in it will have Air Servant in it too. I find that very useful for when my friend borrows my deck.
For some reason, though, I feel like his third ability should give him lifelink rather than first strike. I don't know why, but...

Kithkin: "I'm right handed why do you ask." Kithkin Spirit: "I dedicated my life to the study of fencing." Kithkin Spirit Warrior: "I'm going to duel him left-handed, is only way I can be satisfied." Kithkin Spirit Warrior Avatar: " I know something you don't know. ..."

Flying and first strike: Once he has them, he cannot unhas them.
Oh, and just once, I want to shrink him to dodge a Reprisal.

Only new players will think this card is bad. If you look at it without thinking outside the box, you would just be like "so it's essentially a 8/8 with flying first strike for 11" and that it sucks. Very good card, very unique.

I love pumping this guy up at instant speed. Pyroclasm? Go right ahead. Plus he's an awesome beater in a mono-white deck. I love the eventide hybrid mana.

Figure of Destiny had Level Up before it was cool.
Should totally be redesigned as the first ever Flip AND Transform card.

Something to ponder: Why does he die (becomes a Spirit) before he becomes a Warrior?
I think it would make more sense if he: 1) Was born. (1/1) 2) Grows up training and becomes a warrior. (2/2) 3) Dies in battle, yet his fury () and duty () keep him in the fight. (4/4) 4) As he assists his living comrades, he earns their praise. Now, fueled by their worship, becomes an Avatar and takes flight. (8/8)

Combo with Boldwyr Intimidator. Obviously there are much better ways to temporarily make it a Warrior and skip the first two stages, but that's probably the most amusing.

I always laugh at how recursive this card sounds.

Maybe it's:
-Regular Kithkin (1/1) but he was influential! -He dies, but his influence carries on (2/2) -Over time stories are built around his past and he becomes not just some guy with good ideas, but a warrior as well, inspiring others! (Imagine a warrior jesus) -After many hundreds of years he isn't merely an epic kithkin, or profoundly intelligent warrior, but he's become legendary in his unimaginable accomplishments.
While I'm fairly sure this isn't what they intended it does (to me) represent a reasonable analog to religious figures.

You can also skip the first two levels with Mirror Entity, paying for and proceeding with your Changeling of Destiny/Avatar to-be, all at instant-speed, unlike the new "level-up" mechanic...sorcery-speed.

@OmegaSerris: Well you could imagine it this way
1) Was born. 2) Dies an innocent death (boggart raid maybe?), yet his anger and need of retribution ties his spirit to this world. 3) In his new form, he learns how to fight so that he can take revenge over the evil that slay him and defend his clachan. 4) As he assists his living comrades, he earns their praise. Now, fueled by their worship, becomes an Avatar and takes flight.
