Soul's Attendant from Rise of the Eldrazi is almost exactly the same, except the life gain is optional.

Yeah, and soul warden is about 11 years older... good lord this game has been around for a long time.

I like soul warden better because if you forget to gain the life you can backtrack and gain it. With attendant an opponent could claim you chose not to.
