I think they used this land because the mountains look very sliver-y... at least they do to me.

They used the Tempest mountains because that's the set slivers were introduced in.
I think this art is actually from a tempest mountain. Not sure, because the gatherer doesn't display them all. The art is so-so: lacking a bit of detail, but with all the little holes and caves, you might think that slivers could pour out of them any moment.
