Well... there are SOME worse counterspells. (yes, spell snip, I'm talking to you). The problem is that unless you have infinite mana, they paying the cost is basicly the same for them as not, minus the countered spell, so the ability isn't the greatest. Strictly better than some cards though.

IF you have more mana then them this locks them up for a turn as well, as freeing you from worrying about annoying instants during your turn. This would suck if you had to play UU, but for 1 U it makes alot of sense to me 4/5.

A strictly better Logic Knot, cheaper too. Very nice.

Personally, I prefer the 4th Ed. text, which required the victim to draw all mana from lands to attempt to pay it. This would cause the activation of some of the pain lands, whereas the new text does not. They made the spell weaker.

Hibron, seriously? You have got to be mentally challenged. This spell is nuts. A common strategy for players is to play a "bait" spell, hoping it will be countered, then playing their actual business spell once the control player is out of mana. This card punishes them for even trying, locking them out of their mana and saying "no spells for you." It's a counterspell and a silence that lasts all the way through to their next turn.

This card SCREAMS Commander playability.

@Hibron - Spell Snip isn't all that bad...if you can't make use of it (perhaps your opponent doesn't tap out to cast something), it can replace itself at instant speed (and possibly draw into a decent counter).

As I said on the 5th Edition print, I would love to see this reprinted sometime soon!

It's an above average counter.

wow, that is just ridiculous. It honestly would take very little effort to make this card broken.
