This is a piteous example of a Plainswalker. Not to be confused with a Planeswalker. This might be h○mophobic, but regarding playablility they are very contrasting nonetheless.

Two mana to much, but glad they gave it Soldier.

Why would this be a bad plainswalker if it's one of the ONLY plainswalking creatures that exists? In fact, for a long time, back in the days of yore before powercreep, this creature was somewhat feared. People actually played Great Wall to block this guy.

@Nammertime BS nobody I played with did, and no one i know, even people who've been playing the whole time have even used either this or great wall

For the same cost you could get a 4/4 flier with Serra Angel and that was back in Alpha. I can't call this card strictly worse but yah it was 1 power, 3 toughness and decent evasion behind the curve even then. And seriously 1 toughness? You had better hope the opponent has a plains or this thing won't last long.

I think this guy was made when they made the "creatures with -walk can be blocked" cycle, got to Great Wall, and realized that there weren't actually any Plainswalkers. So rather than realize how stupid that cycle was, they made it so Great Wall could hose exactly one creature.

"Few can withstand the wrath of the righteous"
That has to be the most intimidating quote for one of the crappiest cards. At least, if anyone actually played this, they could tap an intimidating amount of mana and say "Time for my plainswalker." and get them scared for about half a second.

Never heard back in the day: "Well, i've got 5 mana. Do I play my righteous avengers or my serra angel? hmm...decisions, decisions..."

Since when has paying 5 to cast a one toughness creature not been the worst play in Magic?

It's a shame that such a cool name was wasted on such a crappy card.

"Few can withstand the wrath of the righteous" Even fewer can play this without losing the game.
I am reasonably certain this card was printed entirely to justify the inclusion of Great Wall in that horrible cycle of anti-land walk cards. They got the cycle going (and apparently though those cards were worth printing), and then realized that there were no Plainswalkers in the game... hence this scary piece of junk.
What boggles my mind is just how bad it is when not only compared to other creatures of the time, but other creatures in the SAME SET with similar roles. Mountain Yeti comes to mind, for example. If this stupid thing had been a 3/3 at least for 4W, it would still be terrible, but at least not "what were they thinking?!' terrible.

I gotta level with you guys. This card is the reason I've never played a deck with plains in it. No one can withstand the wrath of the righteous, it says so right there on the card, so why even risk it?
