This is way better than Absorb Vis, but Rhystic Syphon is better than both now that everyone forgets the rhystic mechanic.

Absorb Vis is better than this because they're used for different purposes. This is life drain. Absorb Vis is mana fixing.

However. This is better than Kiss of Death for everything but the picture.
