He works well if you have some way to distribute counters to other creatures, also, with royal assassin you can't kill a creature until it taps.

This card exemplifies one of the many things I love about this block: cards that check for counters but don't care where they came from. Really tickles my Johnny.

Lorwyn Elves are such assholes. Killing creatures because they deem them TOO UGLY TO EXIST. I do like how it subverts the normal elf tropes of them being all high and mighty and perfect by making them evil, though.
