I honestly thing think that elves don't mind this guy's protection. He's either a 1/1 for two or you're playing against an elf deck and you wish that you had a removal spell instead of his sorry behind.

One of the few non-elves that doesn't have to worry about Eyeblight's Ending.

This card was very good at a time. There were a couple months in my playgroup were 1 in 3 were using Elf tribal decks. This card, in a red-black goblin deck worked perfectly against them. Granted, other than that he's a 1/1 for 2, so he isn't even really sideboard material, but he's still got an interesting ability.
