It is countered, which means it goes straight from the hand to the graveyard without ever coming into play.

A handy anti-creature card, which has gained a sibling in Negate, which counters everything else for equal cost.

The classic creature counter. With timing, this can easily stop your opponent's trump card. Worth using in almost any blue deck.

Not really a big fan of this, since I'd rather just run plain old creature removal.

Unless I was running mono blue, or U/G (neither color has direct removal).

You're right about it not coming into play, but it the countered card doesn't go from their hand to the graveyard, it goes from the stack to the graveyard.
