This is not a bad card, 3 to defend for 3 and then sacrifice for 1 damage. You can either finish off a creature or have it deal 1 damage to a player.

I found this card fairly underused during the time it was Standard legal. I had 4 in my blue control deck, which went 3-0 at a Regionals before I made a stupid mistake, and this card was a frequent surprise for my opponents and frequently essential to my victory. There were two main reasons this card worked wonders for me.

1. Mother of Runes
2. Skirge Familiar

These cards were integral to two of the strongest decks at the time, and Ticking Gnomes could take care of them using colorless damage (especially important regarding the mother of runes). In the event it stays out as a creature, it's reliable damage as well.

great card in my confusion in the ranks deck. when confusion in the ranks triggers, sacrfice this card in response to 1) deal one damage and 2) take an artifact of creature from your opponent while they get nothing!
