Amazing black hate card, specially since black is pretty much crippled when it comes to removing enchantments. Essentiall 2: Counter Target Black Spell. No catches.

Agreed with the previous poster, very powerful anti-black for green. For the black version of this spell, see Deathgrip.

JFM2796 actually it was just different, the cards focused more on allied/enemy colors, today there's very little of that same sort of card. Black was death and green was life so it makes sense that they can cancel each other out

Dameon Willich does the art for this and Instill Energy. The art for Lifeforce has a Darwinistic feel to it, whereas the art for Instill Energy has a very Creationist feel (think Sistine Chapel). In Dominaria, there is no debate. Creation and evolution simply co-exist.
While the name "Lifeforce" epitomizes the color green, the card itself doesn't fit the color pie as we understand it today. Green doesn't counter spells. Even the spells of its arch-enemy, black. But this one does just that. In the days of Revised, before shroud or hexproof existed as keywords, green needed some way of protecting its creatures from black's wide array of kill spells. Lifeforce provided just such an option.
