I like to see the Gerrard's mechanic move to green. Maro ability + life gain = green. At least to me.

Four mana for a 1/1 is horrible. Eight mana to get some life is horrible too.

The only redeeming thing is the art.

I'm sure if you really wanted this effect you wouldn't want a spellshaper for it, youd just use Gerrard's Wisdom... so why is it a 1/1? a 2/4 would be perfectly justifiable here.

I think the thing that makes it leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth is that Spellshapers exist to make the ability reuseable. But every time you discard the card to fuel the ability, you would feel like you're missing out on 2 points of life. If this card let you draw a card (it wouldn't be a spellshaper, but it would be) like Magosi Sphinx. If it gave you life equal to the number of cards in your graveyard, you'd feel awfully clever if you were a new player and used this each turn. The other thing is, it dies to storm crow and removal, so that's definitely another mark against it.

I'd much rather if this was a "Sapphic Centaur".
And perhaps a 2/3 body without any mana cost for activation.

That's one hell of a fragile centaur. Most of them have a toughness of at least 2.
This leads me to believe that toughness isn't always a transferable. I mean, what gives creatures and people like Dosan the Falling Leaf, an aged and wizened elder, more killing power and protection than a half-horse, half-human mage?
Anything could've done. Instead, you have an ability that seems counter-intuitive. And it kind of is.

this could have at least be 2/3... and still not be very powerful...

Is it too much to ask for some friggin sapphic centaurs?!
On second thought.... maybe we're just fine without them.
