Tehnically, it is much better than the cr*ppier Tireless Missionaries despite this echo cost. In the end, it can be an "okay" one turn chump blocker and 5 life instead of playing that nasty 4 mana.

Putting this at four mana and giving it echo was pretty good for its time. By the time it shows up, it can really swing the game. Nowadays, we'd probably get this discounted, though. The same thing without the echo wouldn't be unreasonable. At one higher on the curve, you get Thragtusk, which goes a step further by being harder to kill.
