Maybe if it costed 3 or something it would work...

This isn't as bad as people are making out. If you ignore the recent silly overpowered creatures, black getting a 5/5 for 5 is a fine deal. Just use it in a creature light deck. It isn't even like it can't be used with other creatures - you can have already cast them. You can cast them and accept this dies. It's a 2 star card imo.

Yeah, horrid. That's the word I'd use to describe it.

Actually it is just as bad as people are making it out to be.
Skittering Horror was at least somewhat useful because it was aggressively costed, netting you a 4/3 for only 3 mana. I don't know what they were thinking when they designed this card, they took a card with a benefit and a drawback and timeshifted it into a card with all drawback. It could've been a 6/5 trampler for 5 with the sacrifice ability, that would've made it more like its predecessor.

Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.
This card references Skittering Horror, even down to it's flavor text.

even if it's the only creature in your deck, there are far better options for a beat down card. the lack of any evasion makes this quite unappealing.
