As long as Pearl Trident is equipped to a creature named Merfolk of the Pearl Trident, all creatures you control without abilities are blue and get +3/+3.

Equip Blue

It would need to be stupid powerful, because you'd be required to actually play a deck full of vanillas and Merfolk of the Pearl Tridents for it to be useful.

Yep, the Paladins should remember the merfolk. They can't be destroyed by any of the abilities of the four paladins from Seventh Edition. They'd get slaughtered in combat though.
