Put this card in a Hellbent or Madness deck, it suddenly becomes awesome.

I don't think this is a bad card, especially if you got some cards that activate when discarded.

I would refrain from calling this awesome or even good.
It could be far more useful if it had a cost that would allow playing it in the early game, though.

But minor lifegain for 4 or some more for discarding cards isn't that great.
There are far more useful cards for hellbent or madness - aside from the fact that these decks normally can't make good use of lifegain anyways.

actually, mode, a little lifegain can go a long way in a hellbent deck. You've seen Anthem of Rakdos, right?

that said, I think this thing would have been fine costing 3.

Pretty much this is bad. Even if you cast a madness card with this, you just gained 3 life to 4 mana. You MIGHT get 10 life out of this a game, and that's just a mediocre 4 mana spell. Compare this to wild mongrel in terms of enabling madness. This is just bad compared to other good ones, like survival and mongrel.

I don't know how they can make a card like this in a set like that and NOT put a Rakdos watermark on there. Who cares if it's colorless, this cards flavor is undeniably Rakdos. Sure, there are all sorts of ravnicans that would want to get some of this yummy stuff, but where will they be going to look for it hmm?

Rather weak card. Can be useful in a reanimator or whatnot, but 4 mana is to much for this.
